About
Eastern Stage Review is for people who enjoy live performance and want to notice more of how it works. We look at the writing, rehearsal and stage choices that help a production take shape, whether you are new to theatre or have spent many evenings in the audience.
What we cover
Our subjects include plays, acting, rehearsal processes, stage design and the relationship between performers and audiences. We explain useful terms and compare different approaches, while keeping each piece grounded in what a reader can see, hear or consider for themselves.
How we look
A performance rarely has one correct reading. We make a case for a particular interpretation, show the details behind it and leave room for other ways of seeing the work. Our aim is attentive curiosity, not verdicts handed down from a distance.
Who it is for
Readers may be choosing a first show, revisiting a familiar play or simply wondering why a scene works as it does. We write for general readers and do not assume specialist knowledge or offer professional production advice.
Every stage choice changes what we see
We look closely at the work behind live performance, without treating one interpretation as the only possible one.
